Overview
MoTix is an app to watch movies online or offline and also you can book a ticket to watch it at your favorite cinema with your family or friend. MoTix have all of your favorite movies and shows to watch it at your home and you can also book tickets for the newest movies in cinemas. And if you want to know more for an upcoming movies, you can check it at MoTix because MoTix is the place for your favorite movies and shows.
Problem Statement
There are many people around the world that struggle because of network issue while watching some movies on a streaming app and there are many people that upset because of long queue at cinema. And still there are many people that struggle to buy a ticket at their favorite cinema because of they don’t have e-money so they can’t buy a ticket.
Aha! moment: So why not we create an app that people can watch movies in it and also can book ticket online in one app at once.
Process
Process that i gonna use is Design Thinking Process. Design Thinking consist of Emphatize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test.
Stage 1: Emphatize
During this stage, we’re gonna try to empathize deeply with the people we’re designing this for, so that we can understand their needs, thoughts, emotions and motivations. In this case, we chose in-depth interviews (IDI).
Research Goals
Implementation of movie and book ticket online in one app.
Research Objectives
Understanding people about their experience when they watch a movie online or on a cinema and know their problem.
Research Question
- Do you like watching movies?
- Do you prefer to watch from home or the cinema?
- why do you prefer to watch from home/cinema?
- Have you ever used a streaming application?
- tell me about your experience using the application?
- tell me how you feel when watching in the cinema?
- try to tell me what problems you face when you use the application?
- please tell me what problems you face when ordering tickets to watch?
- what do you want from a streaming app?
- what do you want to make it easier to book tickets?
User Persona
From the process above, we’ll get a deeper understanding of the people we’re designing this for. In hope that we’re solving the right problem. It’s also very helpful to adopt the mindset of a beginner. After that, i made an User Persona to know deeper about the user itself.
Stage 2: Define
At this stage, we make observations from the results of interviews and try to find a solution for our user problem. And also we’re looking for opportunities that can be implemented to our product later.
User Journey Map
From the user journey map, we can find out how the user behaves when using a streaming app or when buying ticket at the cinema, the steps taken by the user on this journey map which can later be implemented into digital products. We can also find opportunities based on pain points or from stages other than pain points that are useful for product development.
Affinity Diagram
From result of in-depth interviews, we compiled all points and classified accordingly to their similarity. Then we found some findings & insights. This helped us brainstorm, develop potential ideas, and gave a clear view of what was important to users and what was not, while keeping in mind the objectives.
Defining The Problem
- There is a long queue at the cinema when the users want to buy a ticket.
- There are some users that doesn’t have an online banking to buy a movie ticket or to buy for streaming app.
- not all movies are in one application which makes users have to use a second application for which they have to pay twice.
- There are some users are struggling with a network issues at their home.
- there are some users who have difficulty choosing the right film for that user.
Designing The Solution
- Create a feature so users can book ticket online.
- Add a feature so people can pay those tickets from minimarket such as indomaret or alfamart.
- Provides all movies in one app, including movies from Netflix or Disney+ Hotstar.
- Add download feature so when they have signal, they can download it and watch it offline.
- Add algorithm feature so the app can now what are the users like to watch.
Competitive analysis
Before we started this projects, there’re some of the competitors solving similar problem. So we take a look at those competitors.
Netflix: Netflix is a streaming service that offers a wide variety of award-winning TV shows, movies, anime, documentaries, and more on thousands of internet-connected devices.
Disney+ Hotstar: Disney+ is the home for your favorite movies and TV shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.
TIX ID: The leading entertainment application & cinema ticket purchase in Indonesia.
All of these competitors (especially for Netflix and Disney+) have one common solution, which is to help people to watch movie easily. but Netflix and Disney+ are only to watch movie online at home and you can’t book a ticket from that application. And for TIX ID is only for book a ticket online and you can’t even watch movies online from this application. How about we combine streaming app and booking ticket app?
Stage 3: Ideate
Once we’ve found the user’s problem and determined why it’s important to solve, it’s time for the ideate phase. The goal of generating ideas is to come up with as many design solutions as many as possible.
UI Design
This logo should be feel simple and friendly and have something related to movie and can be more recognizable, as the goal of the product is to fills the void and boredom of users with movies and makes it easy for users to book tickets online. So i choose play vector and ticket and simple color for the logo.
The for the name, i came up with something simple.
MoTix — “Movie & Tix”
Movie /mu·vee/
a sequence of consecutive still images recorded in a series to be viewed on a screen in such rapid succession as to give the illusion of natural movement; motion picture.Tix /tiks/
Tix is an informal way of saying tickets, especially tickets to a fun event; tickets.
And finally i combined and simplified it into ‘MoTix’.
Sitemap
By using the solutions from the define stage, then we proceeded to create a sitemap, where we arranged and organized all the features and overall navigation of this app.
Then, i started to make the wireframe with some quick sketches to establish the overall layout and content flow.
User Flow
User flow describes the steps that a user must go through in using a product to complete a task.
Information Architecture
Information Architecture defines how content will be structured and presented to users as they interact with your design.
Wireframe
The overall layout of the app will be simple and easy for the user when using the app.
UI Design System
And then I created a Design System to keep my designs in line.
Stage 4: Prototype
After that we created The Prototype in Figma.
Stage 5: Test
During the test phase, users provide feedback about your design, before the product is created by engineers and released to the public. You can use this feedback to make as many changes and improvements to your design as much as you need.
Usability Testing (UT)
Usability testing is a method used to evaluate the user experience of a product, whether on a website or application.
I did a test using maze.design on 5 participants.
Closing
That’s all for the explanation of my case study project, I got a lot of new knowledge in completing this project and I’m very open to receiving criticism and suggestions from all of my friends.
